Why Use an Alphanumeric Passcode?
While a 6-digit PIN might seem secure enough, it's relatively easy for someone to observe as you type it. An alphanumeric passcode provides better security because:
- It's harder to observe over your shoulder
- It has many more possible combinations than a PIN
- It can include special characters for extra security
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Access Face ID & Passcode Settings
Open the Settings app and tap "Face ID & Passcode" (or "Touch ID & Passcode" on older devices).
Locate and tap "Face ID & Passcode" in Settings
Step 2: Change Your Passcode
Enter your current passcode, then tap "Change Passcode" to begin the process.
Select "Change Passcode" after entering your current code
Step 3: Choose Passcode Options
After entering your old passcode, tap "Passcode Options" to see additional security choices.
Tap "Passcode Options" to view more secure alternatives
Step 4: Select Custom Alphanumeric Code
Choose "Custom Alphanumeric Code" from the options menu to create a password using letters, numbers, and special characters.

Step 5: Create Your New Passcode
Enter your new alphanumeric passcode. For best security:
- Use a mix of upper and lowercase letters
- Include numbers and special characters
- Make it at least 8 characters long
