What this site is — and is not
The Security Checklist publishes educational information about consumer and small-business security: guides, checklists, walkthroughs, and tools. It is informational content, not professional advice. It is not legal advice, not financial advice, and not a professional security service engaged for your specific situation. Device settings, third-party services, and threats change constantly; we verify our content against real devices and date-stamp our steps, but we cannot guarantee that any step is current, complete, or right for your circumstances. You are responsible for decisions you make about your own devices, accounts, family, or business. Following a security guide reduces risk; nothing eliminates it, and we do not promise any outcome.
No warranties
The site, its content, and member features are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including, without limitation, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its content is free of inaccuracies.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Daniel Oakley and The Security Checklist shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of data, loss of profits, security incidents, or damages arising from your use of or reliance on the site's content — even if advised of the possibility of such damages. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the site or these terms shall not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars ($100). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so portions of this section may not apply to you; in that case our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law permits.
Member accounts
You must be 16 or older to create an account. Provide accurate information, keep your sign-in method secure, and use one account per person. Membership gives you access to member content for your personal, non-commercial use — all included with your account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service, attempt to circumvent access controls, or violate these terms. You can delete your account yourself at any time from your account page.
Acceptable use
Don't scrape, bulk-download, republish, or resell the site's content; don't probe, disrupt, or circumvent the site's access controls or security; don't use the site to break the law or to harm others. Personal sharing of a tip with a friend is what the site is for; wholesale copying of the library is not.
Content ownership
The site's content — text, guides, screenshots-with-annotations, walkthrough data, and design — belongs to Daniel Oakley or its respective owners and is protected by copyright. Apple, iOS, and other product names are trademarks of their respective owners; we reference them to describe real settings, and nothing here implies affiliation or endorsement.
Third-party links and affiliates
Guides link to third-party sites and services we do not control and are not responsible for. Some links may be affiliate links, disclosed where they appear: if you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships never change our editorial rules — we recommend what works, and categories we consider harmful stay banned regardless of what they pay.
Indemnification
You agree to defend and hold harmless Daniel Oakley and The Security Checklist from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your misuse of the site or violation of these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in North Carolina. If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.
